Is ethanol a good alternative fuel source?

ethanol fuel

I have recently become interested in Ethanol as a fuel additive and would like to know what you think.

  1. It is, but it is unstable and hard to convert which is why it is slow in coming to the market.

  2. I think it’s a great alternative to straight gasoline. I have a friend who lived on a farm where the corn she grew went to ethanol plants.

Now, a little background on Ethanol, or E85. E85 is the gas you will see at pumps in the future (already there in the midwest). It’s 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. Do NOT put it in your car if your engine cannot take it. You will know, because there will be a placard in your gas tank or in your owners manual.

Buy a car that can take E85. Thanks for helping bring gas prices down!

  3. I like it as I have a 1982 Mazda truck that will burn it.However most fuel injected cars will suffer from the new fuel eating up rubber seals in fuel pumps and injectors. Now you can upgrade to run the new fuels.

  4. It’s a cleaner burning fuel. But it won’t give you the mileage of gas. And it is prone to absorb water. And most of todays cars won’t run well unless modified. But you can get it from a variety of sources, all of which don’t take several million years to renew.

  5. It is harder to convert but it is well worth it! Ethanol as a by-product of using it as fuel releases oxygen in the air instead of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide travels into the upper atmostphere and eats away at the ozone layer contributing to global warming. Ethanol can be produced here in America by using corn which is a renewable resource. In Brazil where they have been using Ethanol for a few years now actually use sugar cane to make their Ethanol. The problem more than converting it is the Oil Companies and those in politics tied to the oil companies. It is surpirsing though that we are just starting to use Ethanol when a process of converting water molecules to produce Hydrogen energy was found almost ten years ago! Search the web for it, and check out the website The Lone Lantern. Granted it is a liberal website, but the video feed of this man in Indiana is actually true. He converts breaks down water (Hydrolysis) and uses the the hydrogen atom for energy while the Oxygen atoms combine to make O2 which is breatheable air. However this man was mysteriously killed by poison before his work recieve too much attention. He did have contracts with poeple in the government and other companies as well, so things are a little suspicious. But in any event Ethanol is a great fuel source and hopefully we will be using it nation wide, not only to reduce our use of oil but also for the protection of the enviorment.
