Ethanol burns cleaner than gasoline, however the making of ethanol is controversial because of current methods of making it from corn and adding to the greenhouse gasses in the process. Most gasoline sold has about 10% ethanol in it already. You have to have a car that can run E85 in order to use it. If you put it in a car not equipped for it, it can damage fuel lines, O2 sensors, etc. Also currently vehicles get fewer MPG’s running E85 as opposed to gas, anywhere from a 10-20% drop. E85 generally costs less than gasoline, but is harder to find. E85 has a higher octane rating than gas.
