time to develop and produce alternative fuels?

how long would it take to not only develop and produce alternative fuels, but also to make enough so that when consumers start using the alternative fuels, the amount stays stable, as there is a balance between how much fuel there is and how much is being made?

   Brazil is doing this now.

   about 30 years, Brazil started this in 1972 and they almost have it perfected.

   depends on the fuel natural gas and propane we already have enough fuel. and they will work on engines designed for gasoline. the bio fuels will take longer to mass produce.
