If you live in the states you might as well forget about the hybrid because the gas savings are very moderate and hardly warrant the extra vehicle cost as well as maintenance, I think this is partly to do with the fact they were designed to roam the streets of countries with non stop, stop-and-go traffic. The turbodiesel got an excellent 34 mpg overall and offered the smooth, six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox manual transmission that can shift automatically. A new cleaner, more modern TDI diesel version will return for 2008 and will be available in all 50 states. Stability control is standard on most trim levels. IIHS crash-test results are impressive.
