Were the ethanol-fueled Indy cars as fast as last years cars?

ethanol cars

This year the IRL switched to an ethanol-based fuel. I am curious as to how well the cars race this year compared to last year.

  1. There were more changes than just the fuel. Some of the changes that I am aware of are that Honda increased engine size from 3.0 liters to 3.5 liters and a decrease in fuel cell size from 30 gallons to 22 gallons. The speeds are very similar from this year to last, but I think there were some aerodynamic rules tweaks as well.
