Anyone know if it is possible to convert a 2000 VW GTI 1.8 T, automatic into a hybrid - or bio-diesel?

bio diesel

I own a 2000 vw gti. I am now very much wishing i hadn’t allowed the salesman to talk me out of a diesel engine. However, i hate to get another vehicle when mine is paid off and running well. But would really like it if it were more eco friendly. Any ideas?

  1. Hybrid is next to impossible- VW does not do a hybrid yet. Bio-diesel? How much money do you have? Hoe mechanically inclined are you? You need to find a donor engine and wiring harness. Next, you need an engine crane, and the Bentley factory manuals for each car. If I were you, I would unload the GTi, and get a Diesel.

  2. I had a Jetta 1.8t and it was great on gas. Have you seen the price of diesel? Its 50 cents more than premium gas per gallon. I think if you do the break down on costs diesel is not any better. You can also chip your car and get better gas mileage by remapping your ecu. Go to and check out the message boards there. Anything with a turbo will not be easy to make bio friendly. Enjoy your GTI

  3. Easiest and cheapest way to make your GTI more eco-friendly is to drive it less. :) Buy a bike, put it in the back, drive halfway to work, park it and bike the rest then you have essentially made your commute half as expensive.
