  1. Disadvantages: Hybrid cars have more components and so use more energy in production and movement of goods- and consequently more CO2 emmisions are given off than the production of a normal I/C engined car. Also newer diesel cars are far more economical e.g. the toyota prius does 56mpg yet the volkswagen polo bluemotion does 80mpg.

Advantages: No congestion charge, no more guilty feelings about the environment, no hassle from greenpeace….

The disadvantage of the energy source for hybrid cars is that it is the same finite gasoline source that all other regular gasoline cars use, subject to the same fuel price hikes… (ALL hybrid cars on the market have the only fuel source as gasoline – no hybrid on the market is plug-in capable of charging off the mains.)

The advantage is that gasoline is easily available through the usual retail markets that all other gasoline cars use. Hybrid vehcles just use this gasoline more efficiently, either providing better fuel economy, better emissions, or better acceleration/HP, than their conventional gasoline counterparts.
