They get output 2-5 times the energy you put in, in form of electricity. Usually a 1.35kW heatpump can get you 4-5kW of heat, depending on the outside temperature. There are good ones that can get you over 2 times the energy even when the outside temp is -20C.

He didn't mention how the liquid is connected to it or what parts you need at the end to connect it to something.
